The stakes show in the state's own ratings. Every lake and pond in Standish carries Maine's GPA class, and the comprehensive plan lists Sebago Lake and Watchic Pond among the water bodies most at risk from new development. The plan credits septic and holding-tank upgrades, along with stricter erosion control, for the improving trend in the town's waters.
