In Cumberland, Maine, a patio should feel inevitable — like the stone grew out of the site. We build natural flagstone patios, tumbled paver patios and granite-edged terraces across Greater Portland, with built-in fire pits, cobblestone and paver walkways and granite steps to reach them — each one on an excavated, compacted, properly pitched base so the surface you walk on in June is the same one you shovel in January.

What We Build

Flagstone & Paver Patios, in detail.

1

Flagstone Patios

Natural flagstone fit tight for an organic, one-of-a-kind surface — fire pit patios in a pine clearing, boulder-edged terraces and flagstone paths that wrap a deck or run beside the lake.

2

Paver & Granite-Edged Patios

Tumbled pavers for crisp geometry and pattern options — contrasting banding under a deck, granite cobble borders and inlaid granite medallions like a compass rose.

3

Walkways, Steps & Fire Pits

Cobblestone and paver walks, thermal-top granite slab steps and natural stone treads to reach the patio, plus built-in fire pits and full outdoor fireplaces sized for real Maine evenings.

Patio Bases

The base is most of the job.

Every patio base is excavated, compacted and pitched for drainage before a single stone is set. We excavate to mineral soil, build a compacted gravel base below typical frost movement depth and pitch the surface so water runs off instead of freezing under the stone.

That base work is why our flagstone and paver patios hold their lines through Maine freeze and thaw.

  • Every surface pitched for drainage
  • Walls designed with the patio when the grade needs a level terrace

Questions

Straight answers.

Will my patio heave in the winter?

Not if the base is right. We excavate to mineral soil, build a compacted gravel base below typical frost movement depth and pitch every surface for drainage. That base work is most of the job — and it is why our stone stays put.

Flagstone or pavers — which should I choose?

Flagstone gives you an organic, one-of-a-kind surface; pavers give you crisp geometry and pattern options at a friendlier price. We will walk your site and show you samples of both before you decide.

Do you build walkways and steps to go with the patio?

Yes. Cobblestone and paver walks, thermal-top granite slab steps and natural stone treads are part of the same hardscaping work, built on the same excavated, compacted base.

How long does a patio project take?

Most patios and walkways run three days to two weeks depending on size, access and stone choice. We give you a schedule with the estimate and we keep to it.

Do you build retaining walls with a patio?

Yes. Many patios need a wall to create a level terrace. We design the wall and the patio as one structure so drainage and frost protection are shared. Wall-only work is on our retaining walls page.
